Jammu 20 Nov:Police in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday said they have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against two newspapers for passing off a Jammu man as the slain nephew of Lashkar commander Zakir-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.
After taking cognizance of several media reports, an official said, police lodged the FIR against the Hindi newspapers for “tarnishing the image of Jammu and Kashmir Police and forces.”
He said they have lodged an FIR No. 73/2017under section 505 and 153 RPC against two newspapers – Dainik Jagran and Amar Ujala – for publishing photograph of a Jammu youth, showing him as Osama Jhangvi- killed in Hajin encounter on Saturday.
“The Jammu youth namely Majid Khatana of Khatika Tala Jammu was shocked after seeing his photograph published in these newspapers, showing him as slain militant. He had demanded investigation into the matter,” he said.
He said the identity of six militants killed in a gunfight with forces in Hajin on Saturday was properly established. “But the newspapers and some national electronic media deliberately published the photograph of Jammu youth to tarnish the image of Jammu and Kashmir police and to disrupt law and order in the valley,” said the official.
