Ganderbal, March 25: Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and SDM Kangan, the Food Safety Department carried out an extensive market inspection in Main Gund Kangan today. The drive was conducted under the supervision of the Designated Officer, Food Safety Ganderbal.

During the inspection, a large quantity of expired food items, including rotten fruits and vegetables, was seized and destroyed on the spot. Additionally, a penalty of ₹5,000 was imposed on erring food business operators under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS Act)-2006 and its accompanying Rules and Regulations-2011.

Food Business Operators, particularly those dealing in mutton, chicken, bakery products, fruits, and vegetables, were strictly instructed to maintain high hygiene standards and adhere to the officially approved rates in letter and spirit.

An official told Kashmir News Zone (KNZ) that such inspections are crucial to ensuring food safety and protecting consumers from substandard and expired products. “Strict action will continue against violators to uphold hygiene and quality standards in the markets,” the official added.

Authorities have assured that such market inspections will continue to ensure the availability of safe and quality food products for consumers.
