Srinagar, Mar 03 (KB): A Food Safety team of Drug and Food Control Department recovered sixty kilograms of stale chicken besides other food items during a raid here on Monday.

An official told news agency Kashmir Bulletin that a Food Safety team conducted inspections across various locations, collecting samples and taking action against non-compliant food businesses.

“One specific tip led the team to raid a chicken shop at Chinar Chowk Rawalpora, where they found approximately 60 kg of stale chicken, 35 kg of internal chicken parts, and 25 kg of sheep fat in extremely poor condition, emitting a foul smell,” the official said, adding “the team promptly destroyed the contaminated products and shut down the shop.”

To ensure public safety, the official urged customers to, Check product labels for manufacturer details and use-by dates, inspect raw food like chicken, mutton, and fish for any signs of spoilage or foul odour.

“Any concerns can be reported to the department at 104, enabling swift action against violators under the Food Safety and Standards Act.”

The Food Safety department has in the meantime advised food businesses, to discard non-food grade plastic containers and maintain high standards of hygiene and sanitation within their premises. (KB)
