Srinagar, Dec 8 : Government forces on Friday evening cordoned off Kralgund area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district and conducted searches as they suspected the presence of some militants.

Official sources told news agency GNS that the contingents of army’s 30 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) of police cordoned off Rather Mohalla of Ananwan Hanjin village which is close to the forests and started searches.

A police official while confirming the cordon-and-search operation in the area told GNS that some suspected militants are believed to be hiding inside the area.

“Some warning shots has been fired towards the suspected spot, however, there was no response from the other side so far”, the officer said.

Locals said that the forces have sealed all the entry and exit points and heavy blasts sounds are being heard.

The area continues to be under forces’ siege and there was no exchange of gunfire when this report was being filed.

More reinforcement has been rushed to the area by the army.(GNS)
