Ganderbal 05 Mar(KNZ):A plantation drive was organised by Sindh Forest Division Ganderbal in association with Gram panchayat of Forest Fringe villages of Preng and Najwan in Ganderbal in which Sarpanchs, Panchs and locals of the village, children from local govt schools participated.
More than 300 saplings of Deodar, kail and Chinar were planted in the forest blanks of adjoining forests of Preng.
On this occassion, locals and school children were shown and taught the right techniques of plantation and were sensitized regarding the need for such afforestration drives to enhance the green cover and also give a boost to protection and conservation of natural forests
DFO Sindh forest Division Mr Owais Mir apprised that under J&K Forest Department’s initiative “Green J&K Drive” around 50 lac saplings have to be planted in J&K in 2019-20 involving schools, colleges, govt institutions etc and this drive today is part of that initiative. He informed that around 0.42 lac plants shall be planted in District Ganderbal in the month of March which will see involvement of Govt offices, educational institutes, Gram panchayats, NGOs, civil society members etc.KNZ
