Ganderbal residents protest against PHE for supplying contaminated water

Ganderbal 24 Aug【KNZ】:The residents of Shahpora and Reshipora on Friday protest against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department of supplying contaminated water to them.

Residents accused PHE of risking their lives by supplying contaminated water to them.

“We are being supplied impure water. It has caused infections and intestinal diseases to the residents here,” they added.

Protesters said a week ago hundrends of people fell ill in shahpora and Reshipora village of Ganderbal due to contaminated water.After that water supply was cutoff.After resuming water supply diseases have against hit there village.

They said they have many times approached higher ups, but nothing has been done in this regard.

“We demand authorities to provide clean water to us,” they said.

They also said Medical team collected water samples early and it was found contaminated.

Later SHO Ganderbal Mr Nisar Hurra, rushed to the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring that their matter will be taken up with the senior officials.

When Kashmir News Zone Contacted CMO Ganderbal he said “As per results of water samples taken early .Water was contaimnated.Now we will again collected samples for testing from sources of water which is being supplied to these villages.”

“We have sent medical team to the area and are assessing the situation closely.”

When Kashmir News Zone Contacted Executive Engineer PHE”There is just panic in the area .I acknowledge that early water sample were contaminated .It was due to dense cover of plants and grass near the source of water which is a spring.We have properly cleaned the reservoir and Place of source .”
