Lar Ganderbal: A growing garbage dumping crisis near the Public Higher Secondary School in Watlar, Ganderbal, has sparked widespread concern among local residents and students.
The indiscriminate disposal of waste on vacant land of Central University of Kashmir (Sarkir Bagh) has created an unsanitary environment, posing serious health hazards and disrupting daily activities.
The issue has become a major nuisance, particularly during morning and evening hours, when unidentified individuals dump garbage on the Central University land. This negligence has led to a significant accumulation of waste, making the area a hotspot for garbage and stray dogs.
Local residents have expressed frustration and fear for their children’s safety as they navigate the garbage-laden paths to school. The presence of garbage has led to a surge in the local dog population, making it increasingly difficult for students and locals to navigate the area safely said a concerned resident.
Despite efforts by the Block Development Office (BDO) to address sanitation concerns, the installation of garbage bins has proven inadequate, with bins overflowing within days. Residents have criticized the lack of proactive measures to address the issue, with some officials proposing that the community pay monthly fees for dedicated sanitation services.
Residents are demanding that the government prioritize proper sanitation services in Lar Ganderbal, ensuring that waste bins are cleared on a daily basis and that the health and safety of students and residents take precedence.
The authorities must take immediate action to address this issue, ensuring that the community receives the sanitation services they deserve. Despite numerous complaints to BDO Lar, minimal action has been taken, prompting residents to call for immediate intervention from the Deputy Commissioner of Ganderbal.
The community is urging the authorities to take swift action to resolve the garbage crisis and ensure a safe and healthy environment for everyone.
When contacted, despite repeated call attempts, BDO Lar Ulfat Jan didn’t respond.
