Kulgam, Nov 03: A girl was sexually assaulted after being kidnapped in the Akhal area of Devsar in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on the 31st of October (Saturday).
Locals told media that the girl (Name withheld), who is a resident of the Pooniwah area in Kulgam had gone to attend a wedding in the area when she was abducted by a group of youth and allegedly assaulted her after that.
The youth after assaulting the girl, tried to kill her, as per locals. She was recovered by some locals from the site and was rushed to a local hospital in unconscious condition.
The doctors referred her to a Srinagar hospital, where she is said to be in a critical condition.
Two youth have been arrested in this connection, a Police official said, adding that the Police is investigating the matter.
An FIR 116/2020 U/S 341, 366, 376/511, 354, 323 IPC stands registered at the Police Station, Devsar.
The Locals of the Pooniwah area in Kulgam staged a massive protest in the area blocking traffic and demanding stern action against the culprits.
Locals demanding a fast track justice in the case said, “The Police must punish the guilty immediately, we are sad that no official has visited the area.”
