Srinagar 14 Nov【KNZ】:On World Diabetes Day.GMC Srinagar Department of Biochemistry conducted a free diabetes panel , diagnostic investigations camp in Govt. Medical College Srinagar in Association With SMHS Hospital and Govt. Lala Ded Hospital.

 

The camp was inaugrated by Principal / Dean ,Prof(Dr) Samia Rashid in Govt Medical College Sringar and Dr Nazir Ahmad Malik, Medical Superindent in Govt. Lal Ded hospital . This camp was approved by International Diabetes Federation , Brussels , Belgium .

 

Various investigations inluding Fasting / Random Blood Sugar ,Glycated Hemoglobin ,Lipid Profile and Microalbumin in urine were provided free of cost to patients and womenfolk in general on first come first served basis . Pamphlets regarding diabetes care, complications etc, were also distributed among eight hundred women including students, staff ,patients and general public.

This year’s theme theme is “Women and Diabetes-Our Right to Healthy Future”

On the occasion ,HOD Biochemistry Dr.Sabhiya Majid said, “one in ten women are living with diabetes many don’t have access to education , treatment and care Women with diabetes have more difficulty conceiving and may have poor pregnancy outcomes..”

He further added” Stigmatization and discrimination faced by people with diabetes are particularly pronounced for girls and women , who carry double burden of discrimination because of their health status and the inequalities perpetrated in male dominated societies .These inequalities can discourage girls and women from seeking diagnosis and treatment , preventing them from achieving positive health outcomes.”
