The students of the University of Kashmir on Tuesday held a sit-in protest adjacent to the venue where Governor NN Vohra was chairing a departmental programme.
Sources in the varsity informed Kashmir Life that scores of students assembled outside the Institute of Kashmir Studies, where the governor had come to participate in a function.
The students carrying banners and play cards raised slogans in favour of Aazadi and against India. “They also raised slogans in favour of the resistance leadership and pledged to continue their support to the leadership,” sources said.
A student said that since the governor is the direct emissary of the government of India in Jammu and Kashmir, therefore, we assembled here to aware him about the “rights violations, killings, tortures and unbridled use of force by its army and other agencies on the hapless people of Kashmir”.
The cavalcade of the governor, while leaving the venue, slowed down near the scene of the protest and apparently read the play cards, the student said.
As the governor left the varsity campus, the protesting students dispersed peacefully.
