The Department of Handloom Saturday organized day-long artisan awareness cum registration camp at Nadihal Bandipora.

On the occasion, Assistant Director Handicrafts Dr Shariq Iqbal lone said that the objective of organizing the camp was to make artisans aware of various welfare programmes and schemes of the department. He said the artisan societies and groups were registered under Micro, Small and Medium enterprises categories and the registration certificates and cards were also distributed.

He said the department is making efforts to make sure that the benefits of newly designed schemes for artisans percolate to the targeted beneficiaries. He said that handloom sector has witnessed a glorious past and it is high time to revive the sector with the help of modern technology and schemes in place.

On the occasion Assistant Director also gave a brief about the activities of the department and said that thousands of persons have been imparted training in different skills at training centres across the district. The department also highlighted various schemes that are in place for the benefit of the artisans to promote the handloom sector, besides raising the socio-economic status of the artisans and also showcase their products. Participants were briefed about different schemes available within the department for the handholding of the artisans for their socio- economic development and were informed about several loan schemes to avail benefits. 10 trainees for the current session were provided provided registration cards .

On-spot online registration process was also carried during the Programme. Later Assistant Director Dr Shariq Iqbal Lone inspected M/s Wular Lake Weavers Industrial Cooperative Society Nadihal.
