Srinagar, May 4: A day after Jammu Kashmir Police submitted a report before the State Human Rights Commission with regard to the killing a youth Shahid Ahmed Mir of Hafruda Handwara, the Commission has forwarded a letter to concerned Deputy Commissioner asking him to see what kind of compensation the administration could provide the deceased family.
Shahid Ahmed Mir (21) son of Bashir Ahmed Mir, a resident of Huffrada Tahratpora Handwara was allegedly killed in Forces action during a search operation on 22 August 2017.
Shortly after his killing, Chairman International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo had filed a petition before the Commission seeking action against guilty and compensation to the family of the deceased.
The Commission had sought a detailed report from Jammu Kashmir Police which they submitted before the Learned Member Abdul Hamid Wani.
In its report the police claimed that: “One Gulshan Begum Wife of Bashir Ahmed Mir registered a written complaint at police station Vilgam claiming his son Shahid Bashir Mir who is mentally sick and is student of BA is missing since 21/8/2017. A missing report was entered and on the same day, 6 Rashtriya Rifles of Vilgam Camp brought an unidentified body and stated that they carried out search operation of Hangnikote forests and during the process militants opened fire which was retaliated and in cross firing one unidentified person was killed.”
“A case vide FIR number 81/2017 under section 307 RPC, 7/27 Arms Act stands registered at the police station. During course of investigation, the unidentified body later on was identified as Shahid Bashir Mir of Daril and it was handed over to family after completing the legal formalities. Statements of witnesses including the father of the deceased were recorded under section 164-A, CrPc before the court of law,” police report claims.
The report says that: “witnesses in their statements revealed that Shahid Bashir Mir was missing since 21 August 2017 and was mentally sick. He has been killed during cross firing between militants and 6 Rashtriya Rifles of army at Hagnikote forests. The deceased was not involved in any criminal case or subversive activities as per the records of police station Vilgam. The investigation of the case is just ,” the police reports read.
The Commission after going through the police report has forwarded a letter to concerned Deputy Commissioner asking him to see what kind of compensation the administration could provide the deceased family. (CNS)
