Uri, Feb 01 : Uri Police on Monday busted a gang of family members that used to extract money from people by threatening to implicate them in false sexual harrasment/rape cases.
Police official said that the accused person along with his wife were arrested. “Both are hailing from Uri”, he said.
A case FIR No 09 dated 30/01/2021 has been lodged under sections 420, 506 and 120-B of the IPC, while the accused have been remanded in police custody, an official said.
According to police, few mobile phones and signed bank cheques were siezed from the accused persons. “The accused women used to get contact numbers of men from public places like banks, shops etc who was calling them later on to lure/honeytrap them, record their conversations and later threaten them with implication in false sexual harassment/rape case etc to extract money from them through her husband”, official said.
“One such case came to light on January 29, when a shop keeper/ blacksmith of Lagama village approached police that he was trapped by the said woman and later threatened him to pay Rs 40 thousand, failing which he would be framed in a false sexual harassment case. The gang has duped many men in the area, but they failed to report out of shame or threat”, he said. (KNS)
