Baramulla, Sep 26 (KS) ; Security forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla claimed to have arrested one terrorist and five terrorist associates linked to the proscribed terror outfits LeT and TRF in just two weeks in the district.
Addressing a press conference as per Kashmir Scroll (KS) SSP Baramulla Amod Nagpuri said the arrests were accompanied by the recovery of a substantial amount of incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition.
He said the operation began on 21/09/2023 when the police received credible information that Yaseen Ahmad Shah, a resident of Janbazpora in Baramulla, had gone missing and joined the LeT/TRF terror outfit. A case was immediately registered, and an investigation commenced by the Baramulla Police.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team comprising the Baramulla Police, the Army, and CAPF conducted a mobile vehicle checking point at Tapper Pattan, leading to the apprehension of Yaseen Ahmad Shah on 22/09/2023. Upon searching him, the authorities discovered incriminating materials, arms, and ammunition, including a pistol, a pistol magazine, and eight live rounds.
During the interrogation, Yaseen Ahmad Shah revealed the name of one of his associates, Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, residing in Takiya Wagoora. The joint efforts of the Baramulla Police, Army, and CAPF then led to the arrest of Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, who was found in possession of two hand grenades. Further investigations led to the recovery of additional weapons, including another pistol, a pistol magazine, eight live rounds, and two hand grenades in different locations.
SSP Baramulla said the arrested individuals disclosed the names of two more associates, Mudasir Ahmad Rather and Showkat Ahmad Malik, who were subsequently apprehended. One Chinese grenade, one pistol, one pistol magazine, and eight live rounds were recovered from Mudasir Ahmad Rather, while Showkat Ahmad Malik was found in possession of a pistol, a pistol magazine, and eight live rounds.
Investigations have revealed that this terrorist network, operated under the direction of handlers based in Pakistan, had plans to recruit more terrorists and carry out activities in Baramulla and its vicinity.
The officer said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the UA (P) Act and Arms Act at the Baramulla Police Station, and investigations are ongoing.
In a separate operation, the joint forces of the Baramulla Police and the Army’s 8 RR successfully apprehended two more suspected individuals at Paranpeelan Bridge Uri. The search of these individuals led to the recovery of two Glock pistols, four pistol magazines, two pistol silencers, five Chinese grenades, and 29 live pistol rounds. It was revealed that these individuals were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition for terrorist activities orchestrated by LeT.
The arrests of these individuals and the recovery of such a substantial amount of weaponry signify a significant achievement in the ongoing fight against terrorism. The joint efforts of the security forces, along with intelligence networks, have proven instrumental in capturing these individuals and preventing potential terror threats in the region.
Cases have been registered under the Indian Arms Act and UA (P) Act at the Uri Police Station, and further investigations are underway to uncover any additional information that may lead to the dismantling of the wider terror network. (KS)
