Ganderbal:On the insightful directions of Hon’ble Mr. Justice N. Kotiswar Singh, Hon’ble the Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief J&K Legal Services Authority), and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Executive Chairman, J&K Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority Ganderbal in collaboration with Chief Education Office, Ganderbal observed International Day Against drug abuse & Illicit Trafficking, today on 26th of June, 2024, at Govt. Boys Hr. Secondary School, Manigam.

The event was held under the active Supervision of Mr. Amit Kumar Gupta, Member Secretary, J&k Legal Services Authority & Mr. Ritesh Kumar Dubey, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Ganderbal, and under the guidance of Ms. Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal.
On the Occasion, Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal, in her presidential address said that the observance of this day is aimed to raise awareness about the serious problems associated with illicit drugs.

She said the main focus of organizing today’s event is to spread awareness among the masses particularly in youth and to draw attention of the participants about ill effects of drug abuse. She highlighted the legal provisions related to Drug Abuse and illicit trafficking and its severe consequences. She called for joint efforts of various stakeholders to eradicate drug menace.

She said society as a whole and family has an important role to play against drug abuse.

Chief Education Officer, Ganderbal, while speaking on the occasion educated the participants about the Toll Free Helpline launched by Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment to assist the alcoholic and drug dependent persons and in order to mitigate the problems of Drug Abuse.He assed that the global drug problem casts a long shadow impacting individuals, families, and communities worldwide. From those struggling with addiction to the violence fueled by drug trafficking, the consequences are devastating.
Afshan Showkat, Clinical Psychologist, while specking on the occasion said that this year’s theme (2024) is “The evidence is clear: invest in prevention”.

This theme highlights the importance of supporting evidence-based strategies to prevent drug use before it starts. She deliberated various issues regarding addiction treatment facility.


Students of various Schools also participated in the said event by way of speeches, skits, and cultural programs etc, held on the subject topic.

The Secretary DLSA, Ganderbal, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, & Deputy Chief Education Officer, Ganderbal, distributed Mementos and Certificates of Appreciation among the students who have actively participated in various activities.


Later, Awareness rally was also held in which faculty members, along with hundreds of students participated in the rally, which began from School premises and culminated at Manigam Byepass.

The students of the School raised “Say yes to life: No to Drugs” etc related slogans. The objective of the awareness rally was to encourage general public about the harmful effects of Drug Abuse.


The programme was also attended by Pr. Govt. Boys Hr. Secondary, School, Manigam, Faculty members of School, Students, etc.
