Jammu, Nov 20: In a significant move to bolster security measures in the region, Jammu Police have registered two FIRs against landlords for failing to comply with the District Magistrate’s (DM) order regarding tenant verification. The FIRs, numbered 182/2024 and 184/2024, were registered at Police Station Nawabad under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

This action follows a renewed effort by Jammu Police to ensure tenant verification is conducted across the district, a measure introduced to combat security threats posed by unverified tenants and domestic workers. The directive mandates property owners to inform the local police about any tenants residing at their properties. This initiative is critical to identify and verify all outsiders residing within the district and mitigate any risks arising from potential misuse of residential spaces.

An official spokesperson confirmed that the verification process was initiated under the directions of the SSP Jammu. The exercise, which has been carried out by SP North Jammu and led by DySP Hqrs Jammu aims to identify any unverified tenants or domestic help residing in the area without proper background checks by the police.

“During the drive, two cases were registered at Police Station Nawabad under relevant sections of the BNSS,” the spokesperson noted. The action highlights the importance of adhering to legal frameworks established for tenant verification, a crucial aspect of maintaining security in the region.

The crackdown is in direct response to an order issued by the District Magistrate, Jammu, mandating property owners to complete police verification for all tenants and domestic helpers under Section 163 of the BNSS. This process is designed to enhance security and ensure a systematic review of the movement and stay of all outsiders in the district.

The District Magistrate’s order makes it clear that property owners must provide necessary tenant and domestic worker details to local police stations. Non-compliance with this order has led to the registration of these FIRs.

In light of the ongoing security concerns, Jammu Police have appealed to all citizens to provide the necessary tenant details to the nearest police station and ensure timely verification. This is seen as an essential step in fostering a safe and responsible community.

SSP Jammu emphasized the importance of community cooperation, stating, “Tenant verification is not only a legal responsibility but a civic duty that contributes to maintaining the security and peace of our society. We urge all property owners to comply with these regulations to ensure the safety of the region.”

As the verification process continues, Jammu Police remain committed to identifying and addressing any security risks posed by unverified tenants and domestic helpers. The role of the community in adhering to the District Magistrate’s orders is vital to strengthening the region’s overall security framework.
