Srinagar: With a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India’s Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, on Sunday said that the cops of J&K police will make Kashmir “jannat” once again.

Interacting with J&K police personnel in Anantnag today, Singh – who is on a four-day visit to J&K – said, “you are working for the safety of people of J&K, you don’t have to do anything with politics.”

“But there are some militants, who only want militancy and nothing else,” Singh said exuding confidence in cops, “(they) call for Jihad for Jannah (heaven).”

“(But) the cops and CRPF jawans want to make Kashmir real heaven,” he said in chaste hindi. “Kashmir is heaven… it has been famous as heaven (on earth) and we want to make it so again for which everyone’s contribution is needed.”

Referring to the killing of JKP cop Ab Rashid, Singh said, “I can’t bear the tearful face of his daughter, Zohra.”

“Yesterday, another cop Imtiyaz was killed (by militants) but we can’t suffice your sacrifices which are supreme,” he told the cops which was followed by question-answer session.

In a suspected militant attack in Anantnag yesterday, a cop was killed and another one was injured.

“You (JKP cops) are giving sacrifice for Kashmir, (for) country and (for) Kashmiris,” he added, “(but it is) unfortunate that people are not ready to understand it.”

“The JKP is fighting at the forefront; you are not rendering ordinary sacrifices… it is supreme sacrifice, Bharat
will not forget (these sacrifices),” he asserted.

The Home Minister said he fell short of words to express his “gratitude to the cops for their work”. “This is message from the Prime Minister who knows very well in which situation you are working,” Singh said. “My confidence level has increased after meeting you.”

He said, “only you (JKP cops) can help in normalizing the Kashmir situation.”

Reiterating that he has come to meet anyone with open mind and heart, Singh said, “magar Kashmir ko deshatgardi say najaat dilaao (make Kashmir free of terrorism). It is possible due to your (cops) efforts.”

“I must be the only Home Minister of India who visited JK 4 times every year and I will come to listen to complaints of everyone,” he added.

Doling out facilities for JKP, he said that sanction has been accorded for a Trauma centre for police while as directions have been issued for granting bullet proof vehicles for every police station while as every cop will be allotted bullet proof jackets.

He further said that police stations in J&K will be upgraded. “But I feel such things are not enough (for JKP) given your work and how you fight for the safety of Kashmir and Kashmiriyat. I salute you for your fight.”

Meanwhile, reports coming from Anantnag said that Kashmir media corps was not allowed to cover the HM’s event. “only Journalists flown from New Delhi were given entry to the venue,” a journalist said.

While the convoy of HM was on way to venue, locals said, “the traffic on highway was stopped thus making commuters suffer intensely.”
