The protesting traders demanded the immediate dismissal of the petition challenging validity of Artilce 35-A in Constitution of India.
Speaking on the occasion, senior trade leader Muhammad Yasin Khan said a complete shutdown will be observed on August 30 and 31 on the call of the Joint resistance Leadership (JRL).
“We want to make New Delhi aware that their tactics won’t be able to break the will of Kashmiris. Kashmir is a political dispute and it can be solved through political means only. Kashmiris won’t allow erasing their identity,” Khan said.
Another trade leader Farooq Ahmed Dar said that the protests across the state will continue till the Supreme Court of India dismisses the petition challenging Article 35-A.
The JRL has called for a two-day strike – August 30 and 31 — as Supreme Court is scheduled to hear a bUnch of PILs challenging the validity of the Article 35-A on August 31.
Meanwhile, police has foiled the proposed sit-in of Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA) outside Jammu and Kashmir High Court here.
A KEA spokesperson said police stopped the protesting traders at Jehangir Chowk and didn’t allow them to proceed to High court.
“Our amalgam has called protest march from Lal Chowk to High court to lodge our protest against attempts to abrogate Article 35-A and we would have submitted memorandum to chief Justice of High court on this issue,” he said.
