Student Special by Ehsaan Yousf
Despite the passage of over two years, the Kashmir University (KU) has failed to conduct the 3rd and 4th semester examinations of B Ed students pursuing their degrees in the varsity and affiliated colleges. Due to delay, the students apprehend they may lose their chance to pursue further courses in next academic session.

“In coming months, the KU will start admission for Post Graduation (PG) departments and we won’t be eligible for these courses as we are yet to complete our B Ed degree.

“Besides, we won’t be able to apply for M Ed courses for which the university starts admission in March,” a group of aggrieved students said.

Interestingly, the students started the two-year B Ed course in September 2015 and were supposed to complete it by this year end. “But the irony is that we are yet to appear in 3rd semester. At this point of time we should have completed 4th semester exams,” the students said.
The students said their 1st & 2nd semester exams had also been delayed.

The students said the university should expedite the process and conduct the examinations at the earliest. “If the exams are not concluded before March, we will lose our one complete year,” they said. Meanwhile, a KU official attributed the delay to 2016 summer unrest. “Closure of the university during the unrest was the main reason for the delay,” he said.

He said deliberations were going on over the conduct of B.Ed 3rd and 4th semester examinations in JANUARY & FEBRUARY. “But we are not able to take FINAL DECISION as we have outside state students who are pursuing B Ed courses here and they usually don’t agree to appear in exams during winters,” the official said. “But we will take a decision on it in coming days,” he said.
Vice chancellor KU, Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi when contacted said they have not taken any call on B Ed exams. “But now that you have put this issue in my notice, I will take up the matter with controller examination to take a final decision,” Prof Andrabi said.
