BANDIPORA, JULY 15: District Development Commissioner Dr Owais Ahmed inaugurated a day long Kissan Mela at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium Bandipora.

The mela was part of Kissan Pakhwada activities initiated by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with allied departments, Banks and Revenue Department to target 100 percent saturation of Farmer Welfare schemes including subsidy schemes, distribution of Kissan Credit Card (KCC), etc thus empowering the farming community under “Pradhan Mantri Aatma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme”.

On the occasion DDC Bandipora distributed Kissan Credit Cards among 150 farmers and also handed over 22 paddy thrashers among progressive farmers under different schemes.

Dr Owais also dedicated a Refrigerated Van to the farmers of the District for transportion of vegetables and other agri-products to markets outside the district. DDC also felicitated 10 progressive farmers who had used innovative techniques for cultivation vegetables and other agricultural produce.

During the mela, different departments displayed their stalls for information of general public regarding best practices in Agriculture and Government schemes being implemented by the Government.

The DDC while speaking on the occasion impressed upon the officers and field functionaries to make the programme a grand success by covering all the farmers including those engaged in Horticulture, Diary, Fisheries, Sheep rearing etc. under KCC scheme for their linkage with PM Kisan account.

He directed all the departments to intensify mass awareness in their work area regarding farmer’s welfare schemes like KCC, PM Kisan, Pardhan Mantri Fasal Bhima Yojana, Soil Health Card Scheme, Organic Farming and others to achieve the target of doubling the income of farmers by 2022.

DC Bandipora said the Bandipora district has a huge scope for agriculture and urged the officers of agriculture department to exploit the potential of the district and take benefits of various centrally sponsored schemes. He also urged the farmers to take benefits of various centrally sponsored scheme and schemes at local levels to improve their production.

Joint Director Agriculture Choudhary Mohammad Iqbal was also present on the occasion who thanked DDC, Participants and Media Persons besides all other departments who were part and parcel of the event. He appealed the farmers to make liaison with all the departments to avail maximum benefit of all departmental schemes and ensure 100 percent KCC coverage.
