Srinagar, Dec 15: Vice Chancellor of University of Kashmir Prof Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi chaired a meeting of college principals to discuss various academic and examination-related issues.

The meeting, apart from deliberating on academic and examination schedules, held a detailed discussion on repeated requests and representations—especially through print media—from students that their 5th and 6th semester examinations be held simultaneously. The college principals unanimously agreed that the request should be considered in the larger interest of students to safeguard their academic prospects. It was given out that this peculiar situation has arisen in the backdrop of certain unavoidable circumstances wherein the admission of these students was done in August 2015 as per the annual pattern that had come to fore following the 2014 floods, and if these students finish their degrees in August 2018, they will have to wait till March-April 2019 to appear in the PG entrance examination. Furthermore, this isolated scheme of semester-based examination cannot be merged with choice-based-credit system scheme which came into operation in 2016.

After thorough deliberations, it was resolved that before a formal resolution in this regard is adopted and a notification issued, the matter shall be immediately taken up with the higher education department of the Jammu and Kashmir government for its concurrence. It was also resolved that the concerned students shall be advised to focus on their studies and wait for the final decision which shall be appropriately communicated/notified.

Meanwhile, the meeting also discussed various other important matters.

Prof Andrabi called for a greater synergy between the colleges and the university so that the academic and examination schedules are finalised in tandem, taking all related aspects into consideration.

Dean, Academic Affairs, Prof MA Sahaf, Dean Colleges Prof Neelofar Khan, Controller Examinations, Dr Mohammad Yousuf Bhat, Director NAD, Dr Majid Zaman Baba and other senior officers of the University were present in the meeting.
