Kulgam : September 07, 2021 Kulgam Police received a written complaint from a person namely Shabir Ahmad Bhat S/O Ghulam Hassan Bhat a resident of Bachroo stating that one person namely Mohammad Iqbal Bhat S/O Bashir Ahmad Bhat a resident of Bachroo came in contact with him and extorted money from him in the name of Police department.
The said person put him in fear that police will arrest him as he was earlier involved in drug peddling and to avoid the arrest he demanded Rupees fifty thousand from him.
The complainant paid him Rs. 20000 in advance as he was frightened that he may be arrested by police for the unknown crime.
Taking cognizance of the matter, a case with FIR number 205/2021 U/S 384 IPC was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was set into motion.
Accordingly, investigating team headed by SHO Kulgam Inspr Jazib Mohammad under the supervision of DySP HQR Kulgam Shri Ghulam Muhamad Bhat-JKPS swung into action arrested the accused and also recovered the extorted money.
During questioning, the accused confessed about his involvement into the pre-planned crime. Further investigation of the case is in progress.
General public are requested not to fall prey in the hands of such fraudulent people. Police has resolved to act tough against inimical elements.
Locals of the area lauded the role and prompt action of police.
