Clashes erupted between protesters and government forces amid a shutdown in Soura area of Srinagar on Friday. An eye witness said that youth took to streets and pelted the forces deployed in the area with stones.
The forces responded by firing teargas shells, triggering further clashes. Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for shutdown on October 27, terming it a “black day and a day of mourning for Kashmiris”.
“Seventy-one years back on this day India without any constitutional and moral justification forcibly took control of Jammu and Kashmir and since then, Indian forces are mercilessly killing innocent and unarmed Kashmiris, vandalising their properties and indulging in other inhuman acts,” the leaders said.
