Department of Agriculture organized Kissan Mela–cum-Exhibition at Manigam today under centrally-sponsored Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) scheme inaugurated by District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal who was Chief Guest on the occasion On this occasion various stalls were established by Agriculture, Fisheries, Horticulture, Apiculture, J&K Agro Industries, Sheep and Animal Husbandry for displaying various items related to Agriculture and its allied sectors. Besides some private entrepreneurs also displayed their items during the Mela-cum-Exhibition.

SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, Joint Director Agriculture Kashmir, CPO Ganderbal, Chief Agriculture Officer Ganderbal, Officers from Agriculture and Horticulture, Sectoral Officers, field functionaries and Farmers from various areas of District also attended the camp. During the inspection of the various stalls, the DDC was briefed by the officers of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Apiculture, Sheep Husbandry departments with regard to their achievements and the latest farmer friendly schemes, equipments /Technologies. During the Mela farmers were made aware about the various welfare schemes like RKVY, MIDH, SMAM, PMKSY, NFSM, PMKISAN, PMKMY, etc of the department and facilities like testing of soil samples, construction of Vermi Compost units, construction of WHT/Tube-wells, etc available for the betterment of farming community The DDC appreciated the role of Agriculture department for conducting such event wherein they brought all the allied sectors under one umbrella to work for the upliftment of the farming community resulting increase in cultivation and increasing income of farmers. The DDC also laid emphases on the farming community to take advantage of various schemes of Agriculture and its allied sectors which are in vogue for their better future. He urged for providing all the facilities to the farmers of the district in agriculture and its allied sectors besides provide awareness to the farmers regarding latest techniques and methods in the farming sector. During the function, it was informed that Agriculture Department has distributed an amount of Rs.1.5 crore amongst the farming community of the district as financial assistance during the current financial year 2019-20 under the various schemes for purchasing of Agriculture machineries. On this occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Ganderbal, said that department of Agriculture is committed to double the farmers income by 2022 and in this back drop various schemes are being implement which are yielding significant and positive impacts in the general upliftment of farming community.
