Sopore, June 11 : A militant was killed in a gunfight with government forces in Wadoora Payeen village of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday evening.
Official sources told GNS that contingents of Army 22 RR, SOG Sopore, 177, 179 and 92 CRPF Batallion Baramulla and Police cordon off Wadoora Payeen village on wee hours today.
Amid the day-long siege, the forces intensified the searches, militants hiding in the area opened fire, leading to a gunfight in which one militant was killed so far. An army officer confirmed the killing of the militant and said that his body has been retrieved from the site of encounter. He said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain is being ascertained.
“As of now firing has been stopped and searches are going on in the area,” he said.
In wake of the operation, the authorities have snapped internet services in police district Sopore.
Meanwhile, In view of the prevailing situation and as a precautionary measure all the government and private Educational institutions, in Subdivision Sopore shall suspend their class work on 12th of June 2019, ADC Sopore said. (GNS)
