Militants on Friday offered gun salute to five civilians who were recently killed in three separate incidents in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Eye witnesses said that a group of seven masked militants late Friday evening appeared in Ganowpora hamlet in Shopian and fired several round in air to pay tribute to the slain civilians.
On January 24, a civilian Shakir Ahmad Mir of Kalampora was killed during a gunfight between government forces and militants in Chaigund village.
On January 27, three civilians—Javaid Ahmad Bhat of Balpora, Suhail Javaid Lone of Ganowpora and Rayees Ahmed Ganaie of Narpora Shopian were killed after army opened fire on protesters in Ganowpora village.
On February 1, a 10-year-old boy Musharraf Fayaz died in SKIMS Soura week after he was injured in an explosion outside his home on January 2. The explosion took place after an unexploded shell went off at the site of Chaigund gunfight site.
