Srinagar, Nov 17, KNT: A minor member of a family looted the golden ornaments of his family with the help of his associates in Srinagar outskirts.
A police team from Zakura Police Station cracked the case and recovered the stolen gold after checking the WhatsApp application of the accused. Police arrested 9 accused including two minors, two goldsmiths, and a woman.
The woman according to police played a key role in selling the stolen golden ornaments to gold smiths illegally without any receipt.
Police as per news agency Kashmir News Trust received a complaint from a local residing in Zakura area of Kashmir capital Srinagar, in which the complainant had claimed that golden ornaments worth Rs 2 lakh have gone missing from his house.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, police after registering a formal case questioned the family members of the complainant and during questioning, police found the photographs of stolen golden ornaments in the WhatsApp application of a minor member of the same family who had forwarded these photographs to one of his friends.
The police team led by Station House Officer, Police Station Zakura Jonesh Verma was able to unearth the gang after the accused minor revealed the motive behind the loot and he further disclosed the names of his associates.
Police during the course of the investigation recovered the stolen gold chain, gold coins, rings, and earrings. The arrested gang members revealed that they sold the stolen gold to two goldsmiths through a woman member without any proper receipt. They also revealed that they used to invest money in online ‘Free Fire’ game and love to spend leisure time.
Besides 7 members of the gang, police also arrested 2 accused goldsmiths. Two minors were sent to Juvenile Board.
Notably, police cracked the case within three hours after receiving the complaint from the house owner. [KNT]
