Srinagar: The core committee of National Child Development Council (NCDC), a self-governing national child welfare organization, observed National Women’s day on Monday.
The country is celebrating the National Women’s Day every year on February 13 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sarojini Naidu, popularly known as the nightingale of India. The country acknowledges her achievements as an extraordinary leader.
While observing the day, the core members of NCDC remembered unparalleled contribution made by Sarojini Naidu for establishing women’s rights in the Indian society.
On the occasion, NCDC Master Trainer, Baba Alexander has said that, “the day being celebrated every year, but no concrete steps are being taken to address the issues being faced by women.”
He said that major steps should be taken by the government to ensure full support for the women, in the form of self-employment, subsidies and other opportunities.
On this day, events and activities are held to honour Sarojini Naidu and to encourage women to take up leadership roles and make their mark in their communities.
