Srinagar, September 20: Declaring him as a “freedom icon”, Pakistan has issued special postage stamps to portray slain Hizb ul Mujahideen militant commander Burhan Wani, a media report said today.
Pakistan has issued 20 special postage stamps with captions like ‘Burhan Wani (1994-2016) freedom icon’, reported The Times of India.
Quoting a senior official of Pakistan Post, the report said that the stamps were issued from the Post’s headquarters in Karachi on 24 July to locally and internationally highlight the “plight of people living in Kashmir”.
The stamps carry photos of Wani and his two associates killed in a gunbattle with government forces in Anantnag district of south Kashmir in July 2016.
Use of pellet guns and “chemical weapons” also feature in the commemorative stamps, said the report.
The July 8 killing of Wani had triggered an uprising in Kashmir that last for six months.(TOI)
