Srinagar: Police on Friday arrested Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq from his Nigeen residence as he tried to come out and proceed to Anantnag, sources said.
“Chairman APHC Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was detained outside his Nigeen residence as soon as he tried to march towards Anantnag,” a Hurriyat (M) statement said.
Mirwaiz had been placed under house detention to prevent him from reaching Anantnag.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had given the called of “Anantnag challo”.
While Geelani is undergoing house detention since 2010, Malik was arrested some days back and Mirwaiz was formally today.
