Srinagar, Jan 3 : Police on Wednesday arrested six persons and claimed to have busted a fake SIM card racket in Baramulla district of north Kashmir.
Official sources told news agency GNS that a joint team of army’s 46 RR and SOG, on the inputs given by Military Intelligence, raided several parts of Baramulla and arrested six persons who were allegedly running a fake SIM card racket.
“The persons include the agents of the cellular companies and a Printing Press owner who were found involved in making fake army rubber stamps, army documents for issuance of the SIM cards”, they said.
Over 1000 SIM cards have been issued and subsequently activated over these fake documents, they said, adding that the SIM cards which were activated are mostly of Aircel and Vodaphone companies.
“Scores of fake army rubber stamps, army documents and six bags carrying hundreds of SIM cards have been seized besides the devices used in the forgery”, they said.
A top security official while confirming the incident said that it was a huge racket running in the northern district.
“A major racket has been unearthed as scores of SIM cards have been found used in sensitive parts of Kashmir”, the official said.
The official identified the accused as Sajad Ahmad Baba, Gowhar Ahmad Geelani, Abid Bilal Qadri, Mushtaq Shah alias Mastan, Azmatullah Bhat and Kanwol Jeet Singh (printing press owner).
The persons who get SIM cards on these fake documents were also found involved in harassing the girls.
He said that an FIR 01/2018 under section 420, 472 RPC has been registered and further investigations were going on in this regard.
