Police today organized one day workshop on the theme ‘War on Drugs’. The programme was held at Youth Development and Rehabilitation Center Srinagar. The programme was organized in collaboration with Ehsas Trust International.Several Police officers from the city including SP City North Srinagar,SP Hqrs & DySP Hqrs Srinagar were part of the event besides senior Advocate from JK High Court, Chairman Ehsas Trust and many prominent religious preachers were also present at the event.
At the onset of the programme, DySP Hqrs Srinagar made a detailed presentation, highlighting the role of Police and religious preachers in controlling the menace of drug abuse. He elaborated on the hideous role of covert supply chains and spike in production processes and identified them as main reasons for rise in the addiction habits of younger generations, besides, he emphasised on the need for cooperation from community members for eradicating drug abuse.
He also highlighted the role of Police in eradicating the menace of drug addiction and steps taken by Police in Srinagar besides informed the participants about the number of cases registered, accused arrested and quantity of drugs seized in last three years.SP City North in his address highlighted the various facets of the problem of drug addiction faced by our society. While identifying the measures for countering drug abuse, he also discussed the plans and series of actions by Srinagar police against the drug dealing and elaborated on the steps taken for curbing this menace.SP Hqrs appreciated the initiatives of assembling all preachers on one platform and appreciated the work done by Youth Development Center in its fight against drug addiction.Various participants including experts and preachers spoke at the event. All the speakers were in agreement that the menace of drug addiction is a serious threat to our society and needs to be tackled on priority. Various preachers have considered to educate the society about this problem and sermonise about the ill effects of drug addiction in their Friday sermons.At the conclusion, vote of thanks was presented by Director Youth Development and Rehabilitation Center. He assured that centre will facilitate such programmes in future and will broaden its scope to counter the problem of drug addiction.
