March 08: International Women’s Day was celebrated today by the Ladies Battalion (IRP-15th) at the Battalion Headquarters, Gulshan Ground, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.
The day long celebrations included lectures by various academicians, medicos & psychologists highlighting the importance of International Women day, presentation of a colourful cultural programme, medical camp and various stalls for shopping.The programme started with a motivational lecture by Dr. Sunniya Wani, DySP followed by speeches by 6 officials namely HC Salma Parveen, Sgct. Mousmi, Ct. Heena Singh, Ct. Tripta Choudhary, Ct. Madhu Devi, Ct. Anju Devi and Ct. javed Ahmad highlighting the importance of this day.
Dr. Shalini Dogra, Gynecologist of Police Hospital Jammu spoke at length on various health and hygiene issues. She stressed on the importance of regular medical checkups to remain fit. Dr. Nazia Rasool Latifi, Asstt. Professor Cluster University, Jammu spoke about the problems women face in the society and suggested various ways and means to tackle the stress at home and workplace.
Dr. Manisha Swaroop Kohli, Associate Professor Govt. College for Women Gandhinagar Jammu delivered a thought provoking lecture on “Happiness and Wellbeing”. She left the audience spell bound with the practical tips to face adversities in life and to take all the challenges head-on. On this occasion six officials were felicitated for their excellent achievements in sports and other fields. Those who were honoured with a plaque and certificate included HC Radha Rani, HC Shamshad Begum, HC Manju Bala, HC Nasib Kour, Sgct. Darshana Kumari and Sgct. Khalida Bano.
A scintillating musical entertainment was also presented on the occasion by J&K Police Music Band which included performance by Dr. Usha Kher (Dy.SP), Nahid, Nooren, Mangal Singh, Vijay Kumar and Purna Devi.Speaking on the occasion, Commandant IR-15th Bn, Mubassir Latifi congratulated the lady officers & officials of the Battalion for setting an example of professional Policing and lauded their untiring efforts in maintaining Law & Order in the UT of J&K. He stressed on the importance of breaking the stereotypes and creating awareness not only about gender equality but assert that women are far better than men in handling various personal and professional crises. He emphasized that women need to take pride in their job and should celebrate their womanhood and achievements in life.On this occasion a medical camp was organized in which medicines were distributed free of cost among lady officials. Number of stalls having different merchandise like imitation jewellery, suits, electronic items, beverages and various readymade garments were also installed which saw very brisk shopping by the ladies. Inspector Pooja Parihar conducted the proceedings of the function and vote of thanks was presented by Inspector Neena Chib.
