Srinagar, June 9: The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Saturday said their priority right now is to bail out Abdul Rashid Sheikh aka Engineer Rashid, who recently won from the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency.
The AIP spokesperson Firdous Baba, demanded that Engineer Rashid be released from jail and allowed to take his oath.
“He represents his constituency and cannot remain behind bars,” Baba, who was accompanied by Engineer Rashid’s son Abrar Rashid, said during a press conference here.
Baba said the AIP lawyer has applied for interim bail for Engineer Rashid and the court has given June 18 as the date of hearing.
“The court has given us the liberty that if need arises the additional application will be considered by the vacation bench,” Baba said.
He said the party has also approached the court to allow him to communicate with his constituents.
“The MP has the right to give a message to his people. By Monday, we hope to get his video message and it will be released,” he said.
When asked if AIP would support the NDA or the INDIA block, Baba said the decision would be taken by Engineer Rashid.
“Our priority right now is to get a bail out Engineer,” he said. The spokesman said after the recent polls AIP has become an alternative force and will participate in all democratic processes.”–(UNI)
