Srinagar, Oct 13 (GNS): Members of Municipality Committee and Traders Federation Handwara Tuesday staged a joint protest against Power Development Department (PDD) over frequent power outages in the municipal town.
The protesters, as per GNS, led by Masroor Banday – Chairman Municipality Committee Handwara and Aijaz Ahmad Sofi – President Traders Federation Handwara, assembled at the main-chowk, chanting slogans against the Power Development Department (PDD) over ‘unscheduled power cuts.’
“The Power Development Department (PDD) has miserably failed to provide uninterrupted supply to Handwara town which in turn is causing huge inconvenience to the shopkeepers and local residents alike”, Chairman Municipality Committee Handwara Masroor Banday said.
“Instead of ensuring supply, the department has been on a mission to increase tariffs that too without any prior information or consultation with the customers”, Banday said.
“We are taking this occasion to give an ultimatum to the PDD that if the issue is not resolved within next three days, we will enter a hunger strike”, Banday further said.
The protest continued, when this report was being filed. (GNS)
