Protest against water scarcity

SRINAGAR, May 16 KNZ: The people from Sheikh Dawood Colony area of Batamaloo today held protest demonstration against PHE authorities for severe water scarcity in the area.
The people from Sheikh Dawood Colony and adjoining areas including women, assembled at Rek Chowk at around 10 am today and started protest demonstration against PHE authorities. They were shouting slogans against AEE PHE Srinagar and Executive Engineer , Srinagar.
The residents alleged that for the last two monthes, the people of the area have been facing severe scarcity of drinking water. There is no alternative arrangement by the concerned authorities and the people have been forced to fetch water from far off places in their own vehicles.
The residents said that the department had earlier assured them that they will provide them water supply “We are being forced to walk kms to fetch water. It is unfortunate that the department is taking no measures to fulfill the demands of local inhabitants here,” one of the residents said.
The residents later appealed the PHE authorities to look into the matter and redress their genuine grievances at earliest or face intensify agitation in case the problem was not solved.
