Budgam, Aug 30, KNT: Protesters Wednesday blocked Khag-Tosmadan in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district against the scarcity of drinking water in Sugan Batipora village for the last few months.
Eyewitnesses told news agency Kashmir News Trust that scores of locals including women staged a protest against the PHE Department for its failure to provide drinking water to the area.
The protesters blocked the road for around an hour and lifted the blockade only after the authorities assured them of resolving the issue on priority.
The aggrieved residents said that there was a scarcity of drinking water in the area for the last many months and the issue had worsened currently.
“We have been without drinking water for the last several months,” said a female protester adding that despite bringing the issue to the notice of higher-ups nothing changed on the ground.
Commuters whose vehicles were stopped by the protesters faced a lot of inconvenience. [KNT]
