Bijbehara, Dec 20, KNT: The body of a man who jumped into the river allegedly after being stoned yesterday while extracting sand was fished out from the river Jehlum today.
Yesterday, a man identified as Muhammad Amin Thakroo, son of Muhammad Jabbar Thakroo of Gadiseer Bijbehara had jumped into river Jhelum and drowned when some persons allegedly pelted stones upon him while he was extracting sand.
Efforts were made to retrieve his body shortly after the incident, but all in vain. Today his body was retrieved by river police from the Jehlum river.
After the completion of all formalities, the body was handed over to family for last rites.
Police have already registered a case in this regard and are investigating the matter.
