Kargil, Jan 14, KNT: A road accident near the Shilikchay bypass in the Kargil region claimed the lives of five individuals and left two others seriously injured on Monday.

Official sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the accident occurred when a Scorpio vehicle traveling from Kargil to Drass collided with a tipper near the Shilikchay Traffic Control Point (TCP). The force of the collision caused both vehicles to plunge into a deep gorge, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.

The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Hassan, son of Muhammd Hussain, a resident of Stakpa; Liyaqat Ali, son of A.K. Raza, a resident of Choskore; and Muhammad Ibrahim, son of Haji Muhammad, a resident of Badgam. The other two victims, believed to be non-locals, have yet to be identified.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene and shifted the injured to the district hospital. The condition of the injured is stated to be critical.

Dr. Muhammad Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, expressed profound grief over the tragedy. [KNT]
