Jammu: A self-styled Chief Vigilance Commissioner was on Monday arrested by Nagrota Police in Srinagar and brought here for further investigations, said an officer.
The impersonator has allegedly duped several people in Nagrota area.
“A man identified as Jawed Akhtar of Laxmi Nagar, New Delhi, impersonating as IRS Officer posted as Chief Vigilance Commissioner was arrested in Srinagar by Nagrota Police on complaints lodged against him,” police sources said.
They said that ‘Mr Natwarlal’, before his visit to Jammu, had earlier duped people in Gujarat and Mumbai, adding, “He was impersonating as Commissioner ED and Commissioner Vigilance.”
“He used to pose himself as close aide of some high-profile politicians and bureaucrats in the national capital and dupe people by taking away their hard earned money,” sources added.
They further said that he had taken around Rs 39 lakhs from three persons in Nagrota, alluring them of land but thereafter, he never responded to their phone calls following which a complaint was lodged in Nagrota Police Station.
“A case has been registered against him in Nagrota Police Station and investigations are in progress,” police added.
