SRINAGAR: Journalism in Kashmir has become a but of jokes as some political activists who present themselves as Journalists are interviewing top brass of Kshmir.
The unfortunate part of the story is that some admins of Facebook news pages who are mostly illiterates and non professionals are sharing these interviews on their pages without knowing ABC of journalism.
A BJP media advisor who till yesterday was dealing in cable business joined BJP though that fellow who currently runs a WhatsApp news page by the name of “BJP Media Centre Kashmir” recently interviewed Srinagar Muncipal Corporation Mayor Junaid Azim Matoo and asked him planted questions.
Ironically this so called journalist turned BJP media advisor is also running a Facebook page with thousands of hits.
“The journalism in Kashmir has been breathing its last and the people who claim to be representatives of Journalists are actually in deep slumber who only know how to maximise profits, ” said an aspirant journalist to Kashmir News Trust.
There are reports that some people in Press Enclave Srinagar who are not part of any organization also claim to represent some media organisations. “I was really shocked to see a BJP member posing as a journalist interviewing Mayor. Same is with others. Kashmir Editors Guild is responsible for all the mess that never raise such issues and they only know how to do politics,” said a senior journalist. (KNT)
