Srinagar, January 31:Army Wednesday filed a counter-FIR in the Shopian firing case after its personnel, including a Major, were charged with murder by the police on the directions of Jammu Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

The army said in its FIR that: “Soldiers were forced to open fire in ‘self-defence’ and in the face of ‘ultimate provocation’ after seven of its personnel were injured.”

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had announced that the police would register a case against the army men involved in killing the youth.

Police filed an FIR under sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) against the personnel of 10, Garhwal unit, of the Army.

Pertinently, Army opened fire on civilians in Ganowpora, Shopian on Saturday killing two youth on spot while third youth (Rayees) succumbed today, taking toll to three.
