Srinagar: The Gandhi Global Family presented Professor Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Kashmir, with the “Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar” on Thursday, according to a varsity spokesperson.

Prof. Ganai received the prestigious award for his outstanding contributions to agriculture education and innovation, particularly with reference to advancing Gandhian principles by delivering Jammu and Kashmir inhabitants means of subsistence, he said. S P Verma Padma Shree Awardee, the president of the Gandhi Global Family for Jammu and Kashmir, acknowledged the vice chancellor for creating a culture of start-ups and innovation, encouraging high-quality educational and research endeavors for societal relevance and engagement, eradicating barriers, transforming education, fostering trans-disciplinary and integrated learning, and boosting regional culture by hosting various cultural events. Verma urged the vice chancellor to support the purple revolution of lavender and other medicinal and aromatic plants. He suggested that the institution hold a symposium on truth and nonviolence that included an array of topics. In his remarks, Director of Education Prof. MAA Siddique expressed his support for the planning of the program on Gandian principles. The Citation for Award was presented during the session by student innovators Mr. Talib Bashir Bhat Research Scholar of Natural Resource Management and Ms. Mir Muskan Un Nisa Research Scholar of Forest Products and Utilization Faculty of Forestry. Some individuals and organizations who have received the Mahatma Gandhi Seva Puraskar in the past include The Dalai Lama, Professor Dominic Shellard from the UK, Heidi Kuhan from the US, Professor Abdul Wahid, Maulana Wahid ud din Khan, Sant Nirankari Mission, Mother Teresa Home, Brahama Kumari Ashram, and Dr. Shiv Muniji Maharaj.
