Probing the matter; we were in touch with organisers to ensure smooth conduct of Muharram processions

Srinagar, Jul 17 (KNO): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir V K Birdi said that on 8th Muharram, some mischievous elements took law in their own hands forcing the police act against them.

“Our prime motive has been to facilitate all the Muharram processions. We were in touch with organisers and volunteers to ensure smooth passage of all Muharram processions. But some mischievous elements took law in their hands on 8th Muharram forcing us to act,” he said while talking to reporters at Zadibal.

The IGP, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that police were probing the matter. In reply to a query, he said since investigations are on, it won’t be feasible to elaborate further. Pertinently, some mourners were detained by police for violating the “terms and conditions” on Muharram 8th.

The IGP distributed beverages among the mourners and took stock of the arrangements in place for smooth conduct of the Ashoora procession at Zadibal, Srinagar—(KNO)
