A complete shutdown is being observed in north Kashmir’s Sopore area on Friday against the killing of a Hurriyat Conference (G) activist in the town.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) member Hakim-ul-Rahman was killed by unidentified gunmen near his house in Bomai area of Sopore on Sep 8.
Hakim was affiliated with the group led by Syed Ali Geelani and had been recently released from jail.
The shutdown call against Hakim’s killing has been given by the joint resistance leadership (JRL) comprising Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik.
In view of the shutdown call authorities have announced the closure of all educational institutions across Sopore division as “a precautionary measure”.
Local sources said that all shops and business establishments are closed in the area while as traffic is off the roads.
