Sopore, 26 May : As the administration in north Kashmir’s Sopore town moves to construct toilets at different locations in this town, one of the locations proposed is near the entrance of the historic school, locals demand relocation.
Residents while expressing strong resentment over the move of constructing lavatory block by Municipal Council Sopore near the entrance of the Boys Higher Secondary School Sopore says, won’t allow the administration to construct it near this historic school.
They said, that the proposed lavatory block will be a stigma on the precautionary health and hygiene prospects of the students and the general public.
Mohammad Arif, a resident of this town said, Construction of lavatories in this area is a good move but the administration must look at the proposed site where it is to be constructed.
“It would be a blot to the sanctity of an educational institution if they construct it there”, he said.
Residents appeal to the administration to change the spot of the proposed lavatory block or at least shift it to the eastern corner of this School instead of the entrance.
The principal of this school Abdul Rashid said it would not be suitable to construct the lavatory block near the School entrance as it will be a discouragement to the students.
Constructing lavatories was a need of an hour, but the administration must change the spot from the school entrance to its corner, he said.
“We had already moved to the administration in this regard and are expecting better results”, he added.
When contacted to the official at Roads and Buildings (R&B) department Sopore, he said, We have clear directions from the administration to construct it on the proposed spot. “Being constructing body we can’t shift the location by our own”, he said.
“Once we get the directions from the administration to relocate it, we will”, he added.
Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sopore Parveez Sajad, when contacted didn’t pick up the phone call from this correspondent.
