Ganderbal 16 Mar (KNZ):The strategic 434-km Srinagar-Leh national highway was opened for vehicular traffic on Thursday in a record time of 66 days after its closure in 6 January this year following heavy snowfall, officials said.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, DGBR, commended the officials of Project Beacon and Vijayak in achieving this feat.
“It will facilitate availability of essential goods and supplies for people of Ladakh and also assist in movement of army convoys,” he said.
Lt Gen Chaudhry reiterated BRO’s commitment to be at the forefront in nation-building and be the best construction agency in the extremes.
“The BRO has again risen to the challenge and lived to its ethos “We Will Either Find A Way, Or Make One”, he said.
Located at an altitude of 11,650 feet, ZojiLa is a strategic pass that provides a vital link between Kashmir Valley and Ladakh and is the key to operational preparedness of the Armed Forces.
The BRO is responsible for maintaining and developing the road networks in India’s border areas and friendly neighbouring countries. It comes under the Ministry of Defence.KNZ
