Srinagar Sept.01 : Director SKIMS & EOSG, Dr. A. G. Ahangar inaugurated State-of-Art Interventional Pulmonology Lab today. The “Interventional Pulmonology Lab” will provide the facilities for patients who need to undergo diagnostic and therapeutic Bronchoscopic procedures, Thoracoscopy and Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS).

The newly inaugurated “Interventional Pulmonary Lab” is one of the well equipped such labs in whole of North India. It comprises of a Bronchoscopy Suite and a Thoracoscopy Suite apart from the other spaces and designated for supportive care.

Director SKIMS & EOSG congratulated the Department and said that these latest facilities will hugely benefit patients at SKIMS.

“After Skill Development Training Lab” which was recently inaugurated by worthy Chief Secretary of UT, Dr. A. K. Mehta and today with inauguration of “Advanced Interventional Pulmonology Lab” administration is making every possible effort to make latest and advanced patient care facilities available, he added.

HOD Internal and Pulmonary Medicine, Prof. Rafi Jan said, that this lab is of paramount importance considering the rising trend of Lung Cancer cases in the valley and will benefit patients at large scale. He informed that the broader areas will be focused in near future and facilities like Broncho-thermoplasy for management of severe Bronchial Asthma, Rigid Bronchoscopy and Thoroscopy, Radial EBUS and Navigational Bronchoscopy will be added.

Director SKIMS, Dr. A. G. Ahangar also recalled the significant contribution of Prof. Parvaiz A. Koul, former HOD Internal Medicine and Allied services in shaping up the present status of the Internal Medicine and Pulmonology services at SKIMS today. He emphasized that the future Human resource at this Institute will realize the significance of these ventures in the course of time and will help lay the solid foundations of advanced care at SKIMS.

Dean Medical Faculty, Heads of various departments, Medical Superintendent SKIMS, HOD Hospital Administration, Chief Hospital Engineer, besides faculty members and supportive staff of the said department were present on the occasion.
