Two army soldiers were wounded in a gunfight with militants in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday.
An official said that the forces launched a cordon and search operation in Laroo village, barely six km from main town, after receiving information about the presence of militants in the area.
“As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the forces, triggering a gunfight in which two soldiers were wounded,” he said, adding that the militants escaped from the house where they were trapped.
Later, the militants believed to be two in number exchanged fire with the forces in a field.
He said the injured soldiers were rushed to a hospital for treatment while a massive search operation is underway.
Meanwhile, mobile telephony and Internet services have been blocked in the district while a strict curfew is in place in the Kulgam town.
