Srinagar youth-Umar Fayaz who was dubbed as militant by Jammu Kashmir Police after he was hit by a bullet in Lawaypora encounter has been set free by police.

Police sources told after investigation, the innocence of Umar Fayaz was established and security was removed from the hospital where he was admitted. Pertinently, on February 5 this month two militants Zia-ur-Rehman of Arth Budgam and Khateeb of Wagam Bijbehara were killed in Lawaypora shootout. A trooper Ramesh Ranjan was also killed. Umar Fayaz, a shopkeeper by profession was also hit by a bullet in his chest and was admitted at SMHS Hospital. Shortly after the shoot-out, police and CRPF in a joint presser had dubbed Umar Fayaz as a militant, the claim refuted by family from day one. The family had protested against police claim and vouched for his innocence.

Sources said that after thorough investigation, Umar Fayaz was set free and security was removed around him. Adil Ahmed, the brother of Umar Fayaz confirmed that his injured brother has been set free. He said that Umar is recuperating and has been discharged from SMHS Hospital. He added that Umar is right now at his home
